What is Moroccan Black Soap?

Moroccan Black Soap — also known as Beldi Soap — is a traditional skincare product used for centuries in Morocco’s Hammam (steam bath) rituals.

It’s made by blending crushed black olives, olive oil, and natural plant extracts into a thick, dark, gel-like paste. Unlike regular soaps, it doesn’t foam much; instead, it softens and detoxifies the skin, preparing it for exfoliation.

It’s rich in vitamin E and antioxidants, making it both cleansing and deeply moisturizing.

Moroccan Black Soap: Secret To Silky, Smooth and Luxurious Skin

Made from nutrient-rich olive paste and infused with natural oils, it’s the timeless secret Moroccan women have trusted for generations to keep their skin soft, healthy, and luminous.

When followed with gentle exfoliation using a Kessa glove, it sweeps away impurities and dead skin cells, revealing a silky-smooth, radiant glow.

FAQs

Can I use it on dry skin?

Yes, absolutely! Moroccan Black Soap cleanses deeply but actually helps keep your skin balanced and nourished not dry.

What skin types is this for?

Moroccan Black Soap is gentle, natural, and suitable for all skin types — from normal and oily to dry and sensitive. Its olive oil base helps hydrate and nourish, while the exfoliation process removes impurities without harsh chemicals. Those with very sensitive skin may prefer to use it less frequently (once a week) for best results.

How do I use it?

  1. Steam: Let the shower's warmth create a spa-like feel, opening pores for cleansing. Shower in hot water.
  2. Lather: Activate Black Soap with water into a creamy paste and massage onto damp skin all over your body. Let sit for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Rinse: Thoroughly rinse, prepping skin for exfoliation.
  4. Exfoliate: Gently glide the wet Kessa Glove in downward strokes, removing dead skin to reveal fresh skin beneath. Rinse well.
  5. Nourish: After the shower, apply Argan Oil to leave skin supple and glowing.

Can I use it on my face?

Yes — Moroccan Black Soap can be used on the face, but always with care. Its natural olive and plant-based ingredients are gentle enough for most skin types, helping to cleanse and soften. However, because it is also a deep cleanser, it’s best to apply a thin layer, avoid the eye area, and use it only once or twice a week to prevent over-exfoliation.

How often should I use it?

For most skin types, using Moroccan Black Soap 1–3 times per week is ideal. This allows it to deeply cleanse and prepare your skin for exfoliation with a Kessa glove without over-drying. Those with very sensitive skin may prefer once a week, while oilier skin types can use it up to three times weekly for best results.

Do I shave before or after using this?

It’s best to use Moroccan Black Soap before shaving.

The soap softens the skin and opens pores, making hair easier to shave and reducing the risk of irritation.

After shaving, rinse with cool water and follow with a moisturizer or natural oil to soothe the skin.

I'm not seeing any dry skin coming off. What am I doing wrong?

Our tips to use Moroccan Black Soap for best results:

1. Make sure you stand under warm water (preferably with steam) for at least 5 minutes for your pores to open up.

2. Do not shave before applying Moroccan Soap

3. Apply Moroccan Black Soap all over your body and wait for at least 5 minutes.

4. Wash off the Black Soap thoroughly and completely.

5. Use a Kessa glove in a back and forth motion. Make sure to use adequate pressure.

5 stars for this scent alone. When I opened the jar for the first time, I felt like I knew this scent from somewhere; it is very similar to the scent of Brilliant Brunette (do they still make that?). Deep, mysterious amber florals that gently linger on your skin after use.

The black mitt that comes with the jar is also very nice, especially if you use it prior to shaving. You feel a good scrub, but it's not super harsh on the skin. I used the soap + mitt the last time I shaved and had nice results (I dislike super thick foams; soap is perfect).

Velvety paste spreads easily under steam, loosening dead skin before I scrub with the included glove. Argan and rose leave skin moisturized, not stripped. Weekly use transforms hammam night into a luxe spa ritual at home.
